banana split cake

it's everything you love about a banana split...sans the ice cream....in a CAKE!
and the recipe goes:

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 tbsp. melted margarine
  • 2 cups powedered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 pound oreos
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4-5 bananas
  • 1 medium size can of crushed pinapple
  • cool whip
first blend and press the graham cracker crust into buttered pan (approx 13 x 9 in). mix together the powedered sugar, eggs, oreos and bananas for 5 minutes, then spread that over the crust. chill for 1 hour.
slice the bananas lengthwise and place them over your mixture in the pan. on top of that place the pinapples, and then cool whip. finally garnish with ground nuts and cherries!

DESSERT

GAH third post in a row but i feel like i need a seperate one for the desserts. this thanksgiving i was blessed with the opportunity to try.....are you ready for it.......
BANANA SPLIT CAKE!!!
(but i think i'll put the recipe for that in a seperate post)

as well as this wondrous cake, there were peanut butter bars (which tasted like reese's cups but better), mini pecan pies, and of course pumpkin pie!

feasting day

just putting it out there--we ate thanksgiving DINNER at noon! must be some weird pennsylvania thing. plus we were jetlagged so it was like 9 am for us....that doesn't make it any less delicious though.

^^yeah, we had WAFFLES!

^and this dish right hurr was sooo amazingly good...it was a broccoli and cauliflower casserole with cheese and croutons. i think it was my favorite out of everything....even the potatoes.

it was a gooood thanksgiving breakfast/lunch/dinner.

thanksgiving pre-game

soo heather's thanksgiving looked pretty delicious (honey crisp apple cider!?)
and i had a pretty delicious weekend as well. as soon as we landed in good ol' phillie, my grandma made her famous cheese steaks for dinner! i'd like to call this the thanksgiving pre-game (just realized how similar of a title this is to the last post but whatevsss)

pre thanksgiving goodness

VVV that post thanksgiving post inspired this pre thanksgiving post (sadly, no photos were taken of my actual thanksgiving meal)
so here it is, my anual everything-but-the-turkey thanksgiving meal:
honey. crisp. apple. cider.

pumpkin spice bread with dutch chocolate chips

carmelized sweet corn

freshly cracked crab from our very own bay

maple glazed sweet potoatoes and cornbread stuffing with apples

long story short, i had a good weekend :)

ps sorry for the poor photo quality in the last few posts, its the holiday rush

post thanksgiving goodness

my personal favorite time during this wonderful thanksgiving break is the meals AFTER thanksgiving.
the leftovers leave no end of possible meals and cranberry sauce, salt roasted turkey with lemon and oregano, whipped mashed potato, and rustic herb stuffing with swiss chard all on one sandwich....well, i'm in heavan

oh, and homemade apple pie for dessert, yes please.

can you say baking craze?

so, my prediction of a holiday baking craze sure was a self fulfilling prophecy...
the house is full of thanksgiving smells and i cant wait to eat, SO i am going to have to cut this off short :)
oreo cupcakes, chocolate-caramel cupcakes, red velvet cupcakes, vanilla cupcakes, banana bread, and pumpkin pie...yum.

throwbackkk

so i am really looking forward to christmas...which reminded me of a christmas past.
when zoe and i made these amazing ice cream sandwiches VVV

they were homemade ginger cookies with....some sort of ice cream. and they were AHMAZING.
cant wait for the holiday baking craze to kick in this year :)

chocolate fo lyfe

have you ever watched cake boss and thought "wow, i wish my cakes could look like that!"
well, we certainly have. and then we were inspired, and decided to create this masterpiece called two moist chocolate cakes sandwiched together with amazing homemade frosting and coated with some powdered sugar.

needless to say, we finished half of it

meat n' potatoes

look at it.

mashed potatoes and a BBQ burger from the asquew grill. we probably could've gotten an even better picture of this masterpiece, but we were too hungry to care about the quality of our photos.
the best part of this meal? we ordered it online.

mexican hot chocolate on a rainy day

so for our first post, we would like to share with you the following (our own modified recipe of mexican hot chocolate!):
1 cup half and half
3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 and 1/3 cup chocolate chips
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

put all ingredients in a large saucepan and continually whisk for about 8 minutes (or until everythang is all melted and such), but don't let it boil!

*technically makes 4 servings, but it can be for 2 people who just really like hot chocolate also :)

thanks to ms. rachel ray and our own ingenuity, we just had THE BEST mexican hot chocolate ever to be created...and the fact that its hailing helped too :)
